BalBix, a risk prediction platform using advanced AI to to hep CIOs, CISOs, and IT security teams protect enterprise companies against potential data breaches, has released a new report: “Tackling the Toughest Cyber-Security Challenges Using AI”. The report provides data and information about how companies should be thinking about the potential impact of AI and Machine Learning on modern cyber-security challenges.

Questions covered in the report include:

Understanding the Cyber-Security Challenge

The report provides merchants with a definition of cyber-security challenges so they can understand the framework they are operating in. This definition: “maintaining the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of our computer systems” is broken down into three areas:

  1. Vulnerability assessment
  2. Setup and management of effective security controls
  3. Security incident handling and response

The report goes on to state that the need to focus on these areas are high, given the increasing threats enterprise merchants face every day from ever-more sophisticated fraudsters.

“In recent years, cyber-security has become a hyper-dimensional problem of extreme scale. With the ‘computerization’ of our businesses, the number and variety of vulnerabilities has exploded,” the report states. “New and novel ways of compromising computer systems are discovered every day by security professionals as well as adversaries. Despite best efforts and robust technology investment, breaches are occurring with alarming frequency, oftentimes resulting in significant damage.”

Data Breaches Key Part of Account Takeover Fraud

One of the reasons the report is so timely is the centrality of data breaches to account takeovers (ATO). This type of fraud – in which criminals target employees with a variety of scams including sextortion – is on the rise. But they are only made possible via data breaches that allow username/password login credentials to be collected and sold on the Dark Web.

With all the problems these vulnerabilities can bring, enterprise companies will definitely benefit from educating themselves on how best to keep their data securely out of the hands of cyber criminals.
