Nasdaq Verafin Adds Dark Web Data on 158 Million Compromised Cards to Its Fraud Platform

By MFJ Staff | Sources: PYMNTS, and Digital Transactions

Key takeaway: Fraud prevention is shifting earlier in the timeline, from catching bad transactions to flagging compromised card and login data before a fraudster ever uses it.

Nasdaq Verafin has integrated dark web fraud intelligence from Q6 Cyber into its fraud and anti-money-laundering platform, aiming to help banks flag threats before a fraudulent transaction is ever attempted.

The companies announced the partnership on August 27, 2026. Q6 Cyber says it has gathered intelligence on 1.2 million compromised checks, 57 million unique compromised credentials, and 158 million compromised payment cards over the past 18 months, drawn from sources inside dark web forums and communities it says it has spent 10 years building access to. That intelligence now feeds directly into Nasdaq Verafin’s platform, which serves more than 2,800 financial institutions holding roughly $13 trillion in collective assets.

“By integrating Q6 Cyber’s capabilities directly into Nasdaq Verafin, we are giving our clients the ability to identify fraud threats before the first fraudulent transaction is ever attempted,” said Colin Parsons, head of fraud product strategy at Nasdaq Verafin. Q6 Cyber CEO Eli Dominitz said the goal is to alert fraud teams “days or weeks” before an attempted fraud, adding that “every piece of intelligence we deliver is a confirmed compromise or threat rather than an exposure score.” Nasdaq acquired Verafin in February 2021 for $2.75 billion.

Why it matters: Stolen card numbers and login credentials circulating on the dark web are the raw material behind a lot of the card-not-present fraud and account takeover attempts merchants see at checkout. If banks can flag compromised cards and credentials before they’re used, fewer of those fraudulent transactions should reach merchant checkout pages in the first place — though the volume of “confirmed compromise” data is a claim from the vendor supplying it, not an independently audited figure.
