Basware to Acquire Payment Fraud Prevention Firm Trustpair

By MFJ Staff | Sources: Trustpair, and PR Newswire

Key takeaway: An invoice that looks legitimate can still fund a fraudster’s account, since payment verification, not just invoice approval, is what actually stops the money. Thus, invoice management companies like Basware closes this gap by acquiring Trustpair, a payment fraud prevention platform.

Invoice management company Basware has signed a binding agreement to acquire Trustpair, an AI-driven payment fraud prevention platform, in a deal aimed at closing the gap between an approved invoice and money that actually lands in the right account.

The companies announced the agreement August 26, 2026. Terms were not disclosed, and the deal is expected to close later this year. Trustpair, founded in 2017 and based across New York, Paris, and London, will continue operating independently as a Basware company, keeping its existing integrations with systems like SAP, Oracle, Coupa, and Kyriba.

Basware, a 40-year-old invoice lifecycle management vendor backed by Accel-KKR, processes 2.5 billion invoices a year across more than 6,500 customers, including DHL, Heineken, and NBC Universal. Trustpair validates supplier bank accounts at onboarding, during account changes, and again before a payment goes out, and says it protects more than 600 organizations, including several Fortune 500 companies.

“Approving the right invoice is not enough if the money ultimately reaches the wrong account,” said Trustpair co-founder and CEO Baptiste Collot. Basware CEO Jason Kurtz put it similarly: “A finance team can do everything right on the invoice and still send the money to the wrong bank account.” IDC research director Kevin Permenter said the combination “addresses a growing gap in finance: protecting the invoice lifecycle from supplier onboarding through payment.”

Why it matters: Business email compromise and vendor impersonation scams don’t need to beat a merchant’s invoice-approval process; they only need to trick someone into changing a bank routing number. Pairing invoice controls with payment-level verification closes a hole that plenty of finance teams don’t realize they have until a payment is already gone.
